Golfing in the Glenns

BUSY WEEKEND
The tropical conditions certainly brought much activity to the Glenns over the weekend. Starting with the Birr Rugby Classic on Friday with over 40 teams taking to the fairways and finishing on Sunday when full time sheet competed for the Presidents’ prizes to the ladies and men huge numbers took advantage of the fantastic weather. Our Pierce Purcell team under managers Tony McTague and Brian Guinan performed heroic deeds in the qualifying stages at Tullamore. On Saturday our team were the leading qualifiers from a field of 18. On Sunday morning they accounted for Castle Barna in the semi final and in the final came up against Castlecomer. In a most exciting finish we were pipped on the 18th to lose 3/2. Managers Brian and Tony were delighted with the team’s performance especially as it contained several players who were having their first taste of inter club competitions. This certainly bodes well for the future and heartiest congratulations and thanks to all who took part. The team was: Mark Corrigan/John Ryan, Enda Carroll/Ger Coughlan, John Wims/Dick Johnston, John Kelly/Martin Talbot, Pat Gleeson/Pat Molloy. Subs:Alan Naylor and Roddy Molloy.
