Club Classic
Arrangements are well underway for our annual Cub Classic which takes place on Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd over the August bank holiday weekend. All members are encouraged to take part in this very important fund raising event and please get your friends and golfing companions to join in. A team of four costs € 200 with meal and sponsorship is € 100 per hole. The time sheet is available in the clubhouse. There is also a raffle with a splendid prize of Club Membership for next year. Special thanks to Michael Horan of Golf Shop and Driving Range and Gary Daly, Cloghan Butchers for their generous sponsorship.
Presidents’ Mixed Scramble
The success story of the year is undoubtedly the Monday evening Presidents’ mixed. Presidents Tony and Mary are very pleased with the big turnout and are especially pleased with the number of beginners who are enjoying the scrambles. The mixed will run until early September so there is plenty of time to get involved. Please note that the golf will begin at 5.30. With the evenings getting shorter some were disappointed last week. Due to the Development Classic taking place there will be no scramble this Monday.

Ladies’ Golf
Lady Captain’s Prize day was held last Sunday. To start the weekend off, the draw for partners was held on Thursday evening following a nine-hole competition with ‘The Bookies’ present to add to the occasion. Lady Captain Mary Sullivan had decided to have a ‘shot gun’ start as the format for her day and there was huge excitement as the various tee off numbers and players were drawn among the ladies. This format proved to be a real winner this year and the day ran extremely smoothly.
Lady Captain Mary during the past year has worked tirelessly for the ladies and the club and the large numbers both playing on the day and present on the night for the annual Lady Captain’s Dinner was an indication of her popularity. A large number of Mary’s extended family travelled long distances to support her on her night. At the presentation on the night Lady President Mary Ryan M.C. thanked Lady Captain on behalf of all the ladies for her total dedication and commitment to the Club over the past number of years when she was served on the committee. The generous sponsor Zandra Fashions was represented on the night by June Carroll and the ladies branch are extremely appreciative of this continued sponsorship.
The winner of the Lady Captain’s Prize, Frances Ashe, is a most popular winner of the beautiful much coveted prize. On a point of interest this is Frances’s second time winning Lady Captain’s Prize – her first being thirty years ago when she won Mary O’Gorman’s Lady Captain prize. Congratulations Frances!
