President’s Prize
Last weekend President Tony McCormack had his days in the sun with a little help from the rain and thunder. Thankfully the showers were of a temporary nature and did little to detract from a very successful competition. The organising committee have to be congratulated on running it so smoothly and apart from a few glitches on the new fifth, complaints were minimal. Playing off the blues made life difficult for many but no doubt things will change down the line. At the presentation Captain Tom Rigney congratulated President Tony on a fine outing and noted that the ground staff had the course in splendid condition for the first major competition of the year. It is obvious that it will take some time for the new greens to mature but he was certain that Bernard Kennedy and his staff will have everything in splendid order for the remaining competitions. President Tony replying thanked all the members who took part and was glad to note that the new course was challenging to all.
He was vey appreciative of the work done by the organisers and noted in particular the work of the ladies who arranged the beautiful floral displays. He reserved special thanks for Brendan Carroll of Premier Insulations for his very generous sponsorship and wished the company every success throughout the year.

Tough luck on manager Brian Guinan’s O’Moore team at Esker Hills who were pipped by one point by the locals. This was unfortunate as the team had spent several sessions in preparation and were very hopeful of victory. Brian reports that the team, though disappointed, are determined to make the breakthrough one of those years.
Well done to the Barton Shield team who qualified for the next round under manager Michael Horan at Glasson on Sunday. The team was: Michael Horan/Seamie Breen and Billy Donlon/Declan Gath.
New course record
Congratulations to Declan Gath on setting a new course record on Saturday. Declan playing off 3 returned a 72 (nett 69). Well done.
