Open weekend
Congratulations to Lady Captain Mary Sullivan and her committee on a splendidly organised Open Competition over the weekend. Exceptional weather brought out the golfers in droves and at the presentation on Monday evening the Lady Captain was most appreciative of all who played. She noted in particular the large number of visitors who came to sample the new development and hoped they all enjoyed the experience. She singled out for special thanks Hugo Loonam main Citroen dealer of Cloghan, who sponsored the competition. It was Hugo’s first sponsorship of an event in the Club and Mary wished him every success with his business despite difficult times. She was happy to see so many locals taking part, something which augurs well for the future. Weather forecasts for the next few months are encouraging so let’s hope there are several more successful open competitions.

Sympathy
The members extend deepest sympathy to Bernie Meagher and her family on the death of her husband Gerry at the weekend. Gerry joined the Club soon after arriving in Birr and over the years served on a number of committees. His courtesy and warmth meant he had many friends among the members. May he rest in peace.
