Golfing in the Glenns
Tue, 19 May, 2009
Congratulations
What a sensational week for local golf when Shane Lowry captured the Irish Open at Baltray. The Esker Hills golfer, who is no stranger to the Glenns, stunned the golfing community with brilliant play over the weekend. Shane fulfilled the promise he displayed over the recent past and must be hotly tipped to succeed on the difficult professional tour. As an amateur he captured the Irish Close in Cork in 2007 and in the same year helped Ireland win the European Amateur Team Championship in Scotland. Last year he won the Mullingar Scratch Cup, the West and North of Ireland and was a member of the Irish team that captured the Home Championship. He was loud in praise of the coaching he has received from the GUI and its national coach Neil Manchip. Shane is certainly an inspiration for all young golfers and we wish him every success in his professional career.

2nd Yvonne Claffey – 74 net Gross. Ann Kenny 85 gross. 3rd Aileen Watkins – 75 net. 4th Carina Gleeson – 75 net.
