Opening of Course
Last weekend saw the end of an era when the final 18h Stableford was played on the old course. The winner John Carroll returned an excellent 45 pts. and playing off a handicap of 15 pipped Michael McGrath who also returned 45 pts. The gross was won by Pat Madden with John Irwin in 3rd place. The new course will open this week with Birr Community School’s Classic on Friday. The staff are working non stop to have the course in tip top shape with Vice Captain Bernard Kennedy and his volunteers giving a generous helping hand. Members will have noticed that new septic tanks have been installed to the right of the 10th and other necessary works completed around the club house. Much thanks to Joe Grogan and his team for a job well done.
All who have inspected the new developments are very impressed with the progress of the greens and fairways. Certainly Captains Tom Rigney and Mary Sullivan are certain that the members will have course second to none and are delighted that many new members have joined to avail of our superb facilities.

Team News. Our Junior Cup and Minor Cup teams played last Saturday in Mullingar and in Moate. Both teams performed to their potential but unfortunately we were second in both venues. Team Managers Bernadette McTague and Annette Kenny were loud in their praise for the teams having to play all matches away for April and congratulated all the ladies who played.
Our Mixed Foursomes team were also unfortunate to lose out on Sunday last to a much fancied Mountrath team. Again all matches were played away under managers Mr. President Tony McCormack and Rita Delaney.
Sympathy
The members extend deepest sympathy to Jim Phelan and his family on the death of his sister Monica Nicholson in Tramore last week.
