Drive-in
The much postponed drive-in for Captains Tom Rigney and Mary Sullivan and Presidents Tony McCormack and Kathleen Doorley is now scheduled for next Sunday 1st March. Sign-in will be at 12.30 with a shotgun start at 1.00 followed by a team of four Mixed Scramble All proceeds towards Offaly Hospice.

Annual Subscriptions
Note that the annual subscriptions are now due and should be given to Joan Grimes in the office. With so many demands on our finances members are asked to pay without delay.
Membership offer
Have you been paying green fees and are now looking to join as a member of a golf club? Then look no further as the entry fee for The Glenns has been suspended until the end of April 2009. All members are reminded that they have until Sun. 1 March to pay membership fees if they wish to avail of green fee vouchers. For full details contact Joan Grimes on 057 912 0082 as soon as possible.
New Greens
Despite the frosts and snows our new greens are looking resplendent with very favourable comments from the members. Work on the 12th and 7th is finished and the furze have been removed from the right of the 8th. With any decent luck the greens should be ready by early May when the Open Tuesdays will return to the Calendar.
Swipe Cards
Members are reminded to collect their GUI Cards as these will be needed when competitions resume in May.
Ladies’ Golf
Winter / Spring League: The first round of the League has closed and round two now runs for the next two weeks finishing on 1st March 2009. Players may play round two any day (one round per day!) prior to this date. Please note: Four scores to count for Round 2. The results for round one are as follows: 1st Place – Team J – Betty Feighery’s team – 212 points; 2nd Place – Team A – Lady Captain Mary Sullivan’s team – 202 points; 3rd Place – Team L – Marie Corcoran’s team – 201 points
4th Place - Team G – Christine Bruce’s team – 200 points.
Weekly individual winners: Carina Gleeson – 22 points, Angie Hough 22 points and Rita Delaney 24 points. Well done to the above ladies. These scores indicate very keen competition so keep up the good play ladies.
The Glenn Eagles
The Glenn Eagles have had their second very successful outing. The results for 10th February are as follows: Category 0 – 22 - 1st Place: Ena Guilfoyle 23 pts. 2nd Place: Marie Corcoran 20 pts. Category 23 – 36 – 1st Place: Margaret Regan 19 Pts. 2nd Place: Carmel Ryan 13 Pts. Next Outing scheduled for 3rd March 2009 at 10.30 a.m.
Women in Sport /Irish Sports Council/ILGU
The above sporting bodies are promoting and encouraging golf for total beginners ladies who have an interest but are not yet members of a club. The lessons will cover areas such as the long game, pitching, putting and briefing on the rules and etiquette of the game of golf. It is an ideal opportunity to avail of such coaching at a very reasonable cost. The lessons will be conducted by qualified PGA professionals and assisted by volunteers of the ILGU personnel. The lessons will commence at Birr Golf and Driving Range on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th March at 7.30 p.m. To register for the lessons, please contact Mrs. Bernadette McTague at 086 884 4674 – early booking advisable to avoid disappointment.
