Captains’ Drive-in
The much postponed drive-in for Captains Tom Rigney and Mary Sullivan and Presidents Tony McCormack and Kathleen Doorley is now scheduled for 1st March. Sign-in will be at 12.30 with a shotgun start at 1.00 followed by a team of four scramble All proceeds towards Offaly Hospice.

Spring League
The Spring League, sponsored by Birr Credit Union, started on Tuesday with the final pencilled in for Sunday 29 March. The rules are simple. A player may play three times (anytime) for the first three rounds between 10 and 28 February. The fourth and fifth rounds will be played from 1 to 14 March. Three out of five cards to count for first three weeks. Top eight teams to qualify for final. See notice board for further information
Annual Subscriptions
Note that the annual subscriptions are now due and should be given to Joan Grimes in the office. With so many demands on our finances members are asked to pay without delay.
Membership offer
Have you been paying green fees and are now looking to join as a member of a golf club? Then look no further as the entry fee for The Glenns has been suspended until the end of April 2009. For full details contact Joan Grimes on 057 912 0082 as soon as possible.
New Greens
Despite the frosts and snows our new greens are looking resplendent with very favourable comments from the members. Work on the 12th and 7th is finished and the furze have been removed from the right of the 8th. With any decent luck the greens should be ready by early May when the Open Tuesdays will return to the Calendar.
Inter Club Programme
The dates and venues for the GUI Inter Club matches have been published. Birr has entered in the following:
Newbridge Mixed v The Heath by 12 April. Fred Daly (Juniors) in Castlebarna 15 April.
Barton Cup V Knightsbrook by 19 April. Provincial Towns v Cill Dara by 26 April.
Junior Cup in Curragh 23 May. Pierce Purcell in Cill Dara 16 May. Jimmy Bowen in Moate 6 June. Senior Cup in Moyvalley 11 July.
Swipe Cards
Members are reminded to collect their Swipe Cards as these will be needed when competitions resume in May.
ILGU and Sports Council Lessons
The Irish Ladies Golfing Union and the Sports Council are organising lessons for ladies who are interested in taking up golf. Lessons will start on 5th March at 7.00pm The cost is 40 euro for four lessons and further information can be had from Bernie McTague at 086 884 4674
Sympathy
The members extend deepest sympathy to our Vice Captain Bernard Kennedy and his family on the death of his father Paul in Moorpark St., Birr last week.
