Christmas fare
At a very well organised presentation before Christmas, several lucky players collected their Christmas hampers. Joan and Francie with their efficient helpers Simon Hogan, Gavin Young and David Horan took charge of the proceedings. The hamper winners were Jim Hamill, Seamas Breen, Billy Donlon, Christy McGarry, John Kelly, Aidan Farrelly, Dick Johnston and Bernard Kennedy. Captain Tom Rigney thanked all who played and had special thanks for the sponsors, Brian Whelahan Newsagency, Peter Fox Pharmacy, Michael Lyons of Square News, Pat Scully, Plumber, Ger and Yvonne Claffey of Moorpark Filling Station, John Fleury Insurance, Birr Seniors and Brosna Press. He thanked Gary Daly from Cloghan for supplying such excellent fare. As can be seen the Ferbane contingent had a successful season with plenty to celebrate. Also on the night Christy McGarry presented the McGarry Cup to the winner David Horan. Christy in a witty speech said he always wanted to see his name on a cup but as his friend Willie Smyth pointed out to him that as he was never going to win one, the only way left was to present a cup to the club. He was delighted that the Juniors had accepted it and that so many played in the competition. He was especially glad to see it going to David Horan from Banagher where silverware was in short supply presently. Billy Donlon was presented with the Kenny Cup to add to the many other trophies he collected during the year.

Subscriptions for 2009 are now due and should be given to Joan Grimes in the office as soon as possible. Vouchers are available for New Year and other celebrations.
Seniors
John Gilmartin announces that the Thursday Seniors will resume on Jan. 8th in the New Year. He wishes all the over 55s enjoyable golf for the coming season.

Ladies’ Social Morning starting at Birr Golf Shop from Monday January 5th. Classes are every Monday morning from 10.30am to 11.30 am. Clubs and balls provided with coffee/biscuits afterwards. No need to book - just show up on the day! Call shop for more details on 057 912 1606.
