Seniors
The very active Seniors under their leaders John Gilmartin and Michael Ashe held their Christmas outing on Thursday. The day started off with tea and scones followed by over forty intrepid golfers facing rain and gales. That evening close on seventy members and guests sat down to a delicious meal prepared by Cathal and his efficient staff. At the presentation of prizes Martin Hynes was congratulated on his outstanding success as ‘Golfer of the Year’ The social part of the day was led by MC Michael Liffey who succeeded in cajoling most present into contributing to the enjoyment of the evening. We had spoon players, accordionists, mouth organists and attempts at grand opera. Tom Nestor gave us a new version of ‘The Bould Thady Quill’. All agreed that the highlight of the social was Tom Hayes’s rendition of ‘The Galway Shawl’. Certainly many of the more ‘junior’ members could learn a lesson from Tom. Richie Burke on keyboard kept us all in tune.
Captain Tom Rigney thanked all for attending and especially all those who have made the Thursday Seniors such an outstanding success. Tom wished all the members a very Happy Christmas and great golfing in the New Year.

Ladies
The Ladies Winter Spring League closing date for entries is 10th January 2009. Put names up on the list in the Ladies Locker Room – draw on the 10th January 2009. All ladies welcome to play – new ladies particularly welcome! A nine hole competition will run from St. Stephen’s Day.
Restaurant
Members please note that the restaurant will be closed on 24th, 25th and 26th December. It will reopen on Sat. 27th.

Subscriptions
Subscriptions for 2009 are now due and should be given to Joan in the office as soon as possible. Vouchers are available for New Year and other celebrations.

Ladies’ Social Morning starting at Birr Golf Shop from Monday January 5th. Classes are every Monday morning from 10.30am to 11.30 am. Clubs and balls provided with coffee/biscuits afterwards. No need to book - just show up on the day! Call shop for more details on 057 912 1606.
