Captains’ Day
Captains Paddy and Colette O’Brien had the best of the Summer weather for their special day on Sunday last. The course was exceptionally busy all day with the lady qualifiers teeing off at 11.00 and the men at 1.00.At the presentation that evening Lady Captain Colette congratulated all the winners especially Aileen Watkins who captured her prize. She thanked her sponsor Mary Rigney of Zandra Fashions and all who took part in the competition over the weekend. She was thrilled that so many were able to play and praised the the organising committee, the bookies and the course staff for having the Glenns in such excellent condition despite the awful weather we’ve had over the previous two months.
Captain Paddy said how privileged he was to Captain the Club during 2008. He paid special tribute to the various committees and organisers of the multiplicity of events in a club such as ours. He noted in particular the the organising skills of Francie Horan, Michael Ashe and Joan Grimes. He thanked the course, bar and catering staffs for their hard work and dedication. He reserved special mention for Alan Foy of Church Road Motors, Tullamore for their generous sponsorship. He congratulated the winners and thanked Presidents Bernie and Michael for their introductory speeches. He was delighted to see Jonathan Yates,a young golfer, winning his prize and was confident that he would collect many more prizes in the future. Jonathan and Aileen both said how thrilled they were to win such magnificent trophies and thanked the Captains for putting up such splendid mementoes of their year in office,.
