Eileen Walsh
On Sunday morning members heard with sadness of the death of Eileen Walsh, our most senior member. An honorary member of the Club, Eileen joined in 1932 - as she said, ‘the year of the Eucharistic Congress’. She was Lady Captain in 1939 and won two Captain’s Prizes in 1942 and 1945. As she often pointed out, ladies in those days were not allowed into the bar and, as Tom Nestor wrote ‘it took sterling courage to approach the hatch and order a drink’. Eileen loved her golf and in later years when age caught up she enjoyed nothing more than a game of cards with her many friends on Sunday afternoons. As a mark of respect the Club was closed on Tuesday morning and guards of honour were arranged for her funeral. Ni bheidh a leitheid aris ann.
Sympathy
The members extend depest sympathy to Peter, Paul and Dermot Harte and their families on the death of their father Brendan in Kilcormac last week. Also to Thady Clancy and his family on the death of his father Jimmy in Belmont at the weekend.
