Winter Leagues
On Saturday the final of the Birr Credit Union sponsored Ladies’ League took place. Team H led by Lena Guinan raced home with six points to spare over team O captained by Maura Flannery. At the presentation Lady Captain Colette O’Brien thanked all who took part in the League and reserverd special thanks for Birr Credit Union who sponsored the competition. The prizes were presented by Margaret Murphy representing the Credit Union.
The men’s league final took place on Sunday with the top eight teams taking part. Francie Horan’s stalwarts were expected to romp home as they had led over the five rounds. But Seamie Breen’s men had other ideas and took the honours on the day. Runners-up were Cathal McIntyre’s team. The leading individual was Pat Molloy with 161 pts who pipped Charlie Brophy by one point. Charlie did not go home empty handed as he captured the long established (1922) Spring Cup. At the presentation Captain Paddy O’Brien thanked Birr Credit Union represented by Kay Kelly and Marie and Joe Rowland (Jewellers)for sponsoring the Spring Cup. The Bennett and Dooley Cups were also presented to the winners Hubert Rigney and Billy Donlon.

Seniors
The Seniors’ Competition on Thursday has become a victim of its own success. With such large numbers now taking part directors John Gilmartin and Michaael Ashe have decided to hold two draws on Thursday morning. The first will take place at 10.00 and the second at 10.30.
Inter Club Matches
Good luck to the Mixed foursomes against Glasson this week. The team managed by Presidents Michael Liffey and Bernie McTague is; Rita Delaney/ John Dwyer Frances Ashe/Brian Guinan, Ena Guilfoyle/Ger Gath, Mary Grennan/Roger Byrne and Pat Maher/Annette Kenny. The South Leinsters (16+) take on Cill Dara on the 17th. The panael has arranged a munber of challenge matches against Roscrea so they should be in excellent fettle for the clash with the neighbouring county.
Congratulations
Heartiest congratulations to Patrice Delaney who has been chosen to represent Ireland on the under-16 team in Scotland. Also congratulations to Shane Lowry on his splendid achievement in winning the West at Rosses Point. He has many connections with the Glenns and all wish him the best for the future.
