Captains’ Vintage Drive-In
A touch of novelty was added to last Sunday’s Captains’ Drive-In when the new Captains arrived in vintage costume chauffeured by gorgeously attired Tony Conroy driving ‘Nelly’ his famous vintage car. Captain Paddy O’Brien stepped out in plus-fours and his wife Captain Colette amazed the onlookers when she alighted in a fitted bodice over a ruffled blouse, long skirt with swirling ruches, her ensemble topped off with a Harrovian boater hat. A large gathering of members welcomed the Captains and all took part in a very enjoyable scramble to set the scene for the now traditional start to the golfing season. The Captains and Presidents Michael Liffey and Bernadette McTague drove off at 1.30 pm with members following later with a shot gun start. David McDowell won the Captain’s drive, Liam Smyth the Lady Captain’s drive, Mary O’Gorman won the President’s drive, Tom Duffy the Lady President’s drive and an excellent meal in the restaurant rounded off the day. Hopefully the excellent weather is a harbinger of better days to come. After such a long wet spell all look forward to an improvement.
