Captains’ Drive In
Captains Paddy and Colette O’Brien together with Presidents Michael Liffey and Bernadette McTague will get the golf season off to a lively start next Sunday when they hold the traditional Drive-In. There have been many interesting coincidences in the history of the Club but this is the first time a husband and wife have held the title of Captain in the same year since Des and Sheila O’Brien were Captains in 1958. All the members wish our Captains and Presidents a very enjoyable and exciting year in office with extensive developments coming on stream. All are looking forward to the summer when hopefully the new holes will come into play. The Drive-In will take place at 1 pm to be followed by a scramble at 1.15. Names should be entered for the draw before 1 pm. The Captains have arranged an attractive after-match programme with a variety of food and card games on offer. Cathal McIntyre has arranged a splendid menu. The proceeds of play will be donated to the Offaly Hospice and the Society of Vincent de Paul.
Spring League
The draw has been made for the Birr Credit Union Spring League. It will be run on similar lines to last year with the first three rounds to be played over three weeks and the final two rounds also over three weeks. The league will be played over 14 holes: 1 to 8, 15 to 17 and 12 to 14.
Ladies Winter/Spring League
The Ladies League is sponsored by Birr Credit Union. Sixteen teams are taking part and the first three rounds have been extended to Sat. 9 Feb with the results being posted this weekend. The last three rounds will start on Mon 11 Feb. and will be run over three weeks. Please check the rules on the notice board in the locker room.

All going well, the new course should be playable by early summer when the three new fairways and seven new greens will have matured.
