Men’s AGM
The AGM of the men’s section was held in the Clubhouse on Sunday evening last. Outgoing captain Billy Donlon introduced Paddy O’Brien who will captain the Club for 2007/08. Outgoing President Fintan Dolan handed over to fellow Lorrha man Michael Liffey. In his report Hon. Sec. Michael Ashe gave a detailed progress report for the previous year, noting that the Standard Scratch was now 71. He congratulated the Tudenham Cup Team on their fine victory and also the outgoing Captain Billy on winning Golfer of the Year and the Kenny Cup. This was a remarkable achievement considering the amount of work he had to attend to with the Course Development. Michael also said that we have entered all Interclub competitions but with several holes out of play we may have to agree to play all our matches away. He said that some new rule changes will come into effect on 1 Jan. 2008. One that should be noted is that a ball may now be identified in a bunker. In a general discussion Michael strove to explain the intricacies of Standard Scratch and CSS to the members. Generally it was felt that such matters will come up again when the new holes are in play.
In his Treasurer’s report Arthur Joyce was pleased with the financial returns for the year and the budgets were adhered to.
Captain Billy in his report said how glad he was to have played a role in the running of the Club. He very much appreciated the help he received from the members. He encouraged golfers to get involved in the running of the Club and put their names forward for committees. He was so glad to see that the Juniors were well looked after and he thanked Paddy O’Brien and Christy McGarry for their ongoing interest in the development of the young players. He thanked all the Team Managers, competition organisers, Darragh and his staff, and all who helped to run the Club. He wished Paddy, Michael and Vice-Captain Tom Rigney a very successful year.
All incoming officers declared their intentions to serve the Club and wished all a successful and enjoyable golfing year.
